Crepuscular rays at sunset on July 11, 2009, assisted by volcanic aerosols in atmosphere. Stack of 3 exposures, 1 stop apart, HDR blended with Photomatix.
A mild and mostly clear night provided excellent views of the Moon and Jupiter. Keith ran the Meade 8" scope for views of Jupiter and its moons. Building lighting was turned red for better night vision and views of the sky.

This is a view of Astronomy Night activities at TELUS Spark, for February 2, 2012. Telescopes were set up outside for an urban star party while inside there were talks, science demos, art activities, and star shows in the mobile inflatable planetarium.
Sword of Orion taken from Timor Cottage, Coonabarabran, NSW, Australia, December 13, 2010. This is a stack of 5 x 7 minute exposures at ISO 800 with Canon 5D MkII camera on 77mm Borg astrographic lens at f/4.2 (~300mm focal length). Contain M42 and M43 the Orion Nebula; the Horsehead Nebula; and NGC 2024 the Flame Nebula.

This is a scene from the September 22, 2012 Open House at the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory southwest of Calgary, operated by the University of Calgary. About 250 people attended to enjoy the warm first night of autumn, and views of the Moon, Uranus, and deep-sky targets in the evening sky. Talks inside reviewed the current night sky and research on finding molecules in space needed for the formation of life. Telescopes were staffed, and in many cases supplied, by members of the Calgary Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.
