A HDR stack of 10 exposures at 1 stop intervals of the waxing crescent Moon with Earthshine taken from Australia on December 17, 2012, so the Moon appears upside down compared to the view from the northern hemisphere. Zenith is up, the horizon is toward the bottom of the frame. Taken with the Canon 60Da at ISO 100 and Astro-Physics Traveler 105mm apo refractor at f/5.8. Assembled in Photomatix Pro (Photoshop HDR created too many artifacts).

An ultrawide angle image of the southern Milky Way, taken from Coonabarabran, NSW, Australia, December 13/14, 2012, using an 15mm Canon full-frame fish-eye lens and Canon 5D MkII camera for a stack of 4 x 6 minute exposures at f/4 and ISO 800. Jupiter is at top left, Orion to the right of Jupiter. Sirius is left of centre, the large Gum Nebula is at centre, while the Carina Nebula, Crux and the Pointer stars, Alpha and Beta Centauri, are rising at lower right. The Magellanic Clouds are at upper right. Some high altitude haze added glows around bright stars.

Taurus, the Pleiades, Jupiter and Orion are left of centre over Timor Rock, the Milky Way extends from there to the right down toward the cottage, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds are right of centre over the cottage. Some green and red bands from airglow are visible to the south behind the cottage.

At left is Sirius and Canis Major, at centre Puppis and Vela, and above centre is Canopus and the Large Magellanic Cloud. The Carina Nebula area is at lower right. The Southern Cross is just rising above the trees and clouds. This is a single 60 ssecond exposure with the Canon 60Da and 10-22mm lens at f/3.5 and ISO 3200.

This is a stack of 3 x 2 1/2 minute exposures, tracked, with the Canon 5D MkII at ISO 800 and 15mm lens at f/2.8. The ground is from one exposure to avoid blurring of foreground details. Dawn twlight is tinting the sky blue. Orion is at right, Sirius high in the upper right, Vela and Puppis at top centre, and Carina, the Carina Nebula, and the Southern Cross at upper left.
